Mr Eazi’s “The Evil Genius” Exhibition Garners Acclaim in London, Prepares for Lagos Showcase

Nigeria-born innovator and musician, Oluwatosin 'Mr Eazi' Ajibade, has taken the art world by storm with his music and art exhibition titled "The Evil Genius," which was first displayed in Accra and then in London and will now move to Lagos in November.

Nigeria-born innovator and musician, Oluwatosin ‘Mr Eazi‘ Ajibade, has taken the art world by storm with his music and art exhibition titled “The Evil Genius,” which was first displayed in Accra and then in London and will now move to Lagos in November.

Inspired by his debut album, the exhibition serves as a jubilant expression of love, freedom, and happiness, mirroring the thematic essence of his music. In Lagos, the exhibition will feature 16 artworks from 12 artists hailing from eight African countries, carefully chosen by Mr. Eazi.

Among the featured artists are Dominique Zinkpè and Patricorel from Cotonou, Benin; Tesprit from Lomé, Togo; Samuel Tete-Katchan from Accra, Ghana; Tammy Sinclair from Abuja, Nigeria; Alpha ODH from Nairobi, Kenya; Chinaza Nkemka and Edozie Anedu from Lagos, Nigeria; Elangwe Sesse from Cameroon; Ikechukwu Christian from Lagos, Nigeria; Kufa Makwavarara from Zimbabwe/South Africa; and Sandra Seghir from Dakar, Senegal.

Having attracted significant attention in London, where it was lauded as one of the standout booths at the 2023 edition of the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair by ArtNews, the exhibition held at Somerset House drew attention from a star-studded audience, with notable guests including actress Temi Otedola, renowned performance artist Marina Abramović, film director Todd Eckert, Shola Akinlade of Paystack, Ashley Verse, DJ Cuppy, Tom Tripp, and more.

The exhibition’s success in London has paved the way for its next destination, Lagos, Nigeria. Scheduled for November, the showcase is anticipated to attract art enthusiasts and patrons from the vibrant Lagos art scene.

Mr. Eazi‘s selection process for “The Evil Genius” was a spontaneous and instinctual collaboration, mirroring his approach to musical endeavours. The chosen artists were those whose work resonated with Mr. Eazi, engaging in discussions about the music’s meaning to inspire their creative freedom.

Beyond its visual allure, the exhibition seeks to spark meaningful conversations about Contemporary African Art, providing a platform for emerging and established artists to share their perspectives. Mr Eazi dedicated over two years to this project, aiming to share his vision with the world and ignite meaningful conversations about Contemporary African Art.
